It’s almost like they started working on full-featured pop out panels a la FSX, got so far, abandoned it, and then forgot to take it out when they released the sim.

In the context of a simulator being designed to be used by PC or console users on a single screen with a mouse or Xbox controller (which is absolutely the primary use case that they considered), making it possible to pop out just the glass of the avionics while not making it possible to interact with the pop-out in any way doesn’t seem to give any type of user what they actually want or need.

I don’t honestly understand why they added the pop-out functionality in the first place, since they definitely weren’t doing a like-for-like feature parity exercise with FSX. If he gets this working, he deserves a reward for saving our collective rear ends again. And the fact the devs outright stated that adding touch support to the sim is very low priority and won’t come any time soon really points to the fact that Microsobo don’t really have any idea how people use their software and what’s needed.ĮDIT: If Stanley can get this working, I would strongly recommend anyone using POPM send him a PayPal donation via his GitHub page. Literally hundreds, if not thousands (based on what I’ve seen on Discord and Facebook groups) of “regular” users with basic setups are now using Spacedesk + a tablet with POPM to control their avionics. But the recent explosion in popularity of planes using the GTN and G3000/5000 (particularly since AAU I) has changed that. A year or so ago, that may not have been far off the mark.

This popout and touch functionality is seen by many as a niche feature needed only by cockpit builders and Air Manager users. (<- to be clear, this analogy is not meant in a derogatory way) That was evident in the devsupport forum last summer where posting a video of how we use popouts on touch screens was met with the slack-jawed amazement of cavemen who were shown by another that he knew how to create fire. They barely understand how end users actually use popout windows in the first place. The only 3rd party stuff really on their radar is stuff that will eventually find its way into the marketplace. Forum staff and CMs might be, but at the higher tiers in the MSFS team where meaningful decisions are made, I’d be surprised. I doubt they’re even aware of POPM’s existence, its purpose or functionality.
